Historial de la Vendée
A world-class museum telling the story of the Vendée from prehistoric times to the present day, with a particularly powerful account of the Wars of the Vendée (1793–1796). Stunning modern architecture set in the grounds of a historic château at Grand-Landes.
Logis de la Chabotterie
A beautifully preserved 17th-century manor house at Saint-Sulpice-le-Verdon, famous as the site where the Vendéen general Charette was captured in 1796. Offers guided tours, period gardens, and interactive exhibitions on the Vendée Uprising.
Musée du Bocage Vendéen
Located in Fontenay-le-Comte, this regional museum explores the natural landscape, traditions, and rural heritage of the Bocage Vendéen. Informative and well-presented, it brings the local countryside to life.
Île de Noirmoutier

Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie
The nearest Atlantic town to us, just 20 minutes by car. A lively fishing port and seaside resort with a wide sandy beach, fresh seafood restaurants on the quay, a weekly market, and watersports including sailing, surfing, and paddleboarding.
Les Sables-d'Olonne
One of France's most famous seaside resorts and the start and finish of the legendary Vendée Globe round-the-world yacht race. A long, sweeping beach backed by a lively promenade, casino, and excellent seafood restaurants. Busy in summer, charming year-round.
Saint-Jean-de-Monts
A popular family resort town on the Atlantic coast with a vast sandy beach stretching for kilometres. Well known for its extensive network of cycling and walking paths through the pine forests behind the dunes, and a lively seafront lined with cafés and crêperies.
Brétignolles-sur-Mer
A quieter alternative to the larger resorts, Brétignolles is a charming coastal village with rocky coves, surf-friendly beaches, and a relaxed atmosphere. Popular with surfers and those looking to escape the summer crowds while still enjoying the Atlantic coast.
La Tranche-sur-Mer
Famous for its Floraison tulip festival each spring and its long, wide Atlantic beach. La Tranche is a gentle, family-friendly resort at the southern tip of the Vendée coast with good cycling paths and a traditional weekly market.
